I think it's more just a natural human compulsion to dominate others through whatever means they can, not exactly psychopathically genocidal. People have done it all throughout time, we've only recently forgotten how natural it is.. Communism is just a new, over-intellectualized rationalization for base human tendencies to make them more palatable to modern sensibilities.

Hate Christianity all you want but it really did disrupt that trend in humanity.
