Pretty much every culture is diverse within its own microcosm. Any stability and homogeneity we see in most countries today is only after hundreds or thousands of years of conflict between their minorities, where one became dominant. However the traces of the old cultures are still there, assimilated, and appreciated by the majority. (unless the majority is Islam which wipes out all traces of previous culture)
I don't really know what I'm leading to except to agree with the Japanese guy. That kind of true diversity is what stuff like the Olympics used to celebrate. Every country being their own unique mix of a distinct racial and cultural past.
Globohomo ain't it. Globohomo actually wipes out those interesting organic variations to install approved color-coded diversity quotas and a limited range of acceptable thought. (which varies based on what the corporations and politicians need at any given time)
This. There's a TON of diversity in Japan from local customs to dialects like People from Osaka are known to unashamedly bargain for a lower price. People from Kyoto are aloof and unfriendly to strangers (aloof yes, unfriendly no). Wakayama people are country bumpkins. Regional differences provide a rich source of humor of a kind that is now effectively outlawed in America, where diversity is celebrated but differences must go unmentioned for fear of hurting someone's feelings.
People are still very much free to shit on White southerners though.
Til the stars and bars suddenly and for no reason at all rises again.
