Most states have these kinds of powers, it's SUPPOSED to be used for Bioterrorism (A terrorist would never consent to treatment and would try and leave) and retards refusing treatment even thought they have something like Ebola or Drug-resistant tuberculosis which would obviously be a threat to public safety and potentially kill thousands. Doubt Desantis would allow it to be used for Covid. It's meant to be similar to the Baker act/ since states also have a fiduciary obligation to preserve the lives of citizens as they're also have a fiduciary obligation to keep Steve the stabby schizoid off the streets so he can't live up to his namesake.
First of all I am not sure if every state has these specific powers allocated to the hands of public health bureaucrats.
In the age of COVID, it is clear that if public health bureaucrats have access to such powers, they would feel emboldened to use them.
DeSantis has recently become the right's favorite son thanks to his legislative achievements. I myself have vehemently praised the man and even wanted him to be the Rep nominee in 2024.
What I find disturbing is that Gov DeSantis apparently signed this bill even after seeing how public health officials completely screwed the pooch in terms of COVID.
Public health bureaucrats have had access to these powers for awhile, people are just now noticing because wuflu. It's already happened to people with TB.
