In the Heights is fucking stupid. The music is fine because Miranda is legit talented but that's all it has going for it. The rest is fucking nonsensical attempt to make people who aren't remotely oppressed seem oppressed.
Main character, small business owner, goal is to move back to Dominican Republic and reopen the family business, is successful enough that he gets the chance to do so.
College girl side character, comes back from Stanford for holiday doesn't want to return to Stanford because she felt out of place because in this reality the Bay Area doesn't have any Hispanics.
Love interest, wants to start a design studio and she can't get a lease on the expensive space because of her zero income, a white couple come in after her and the movie seems to be implying they get the space because of their skin color and not for the fact that they probably have income.
Illegal teenager that is all "oh no, I can't go to college because I'm not here legally" because that reflects reality of course.
And you get the impression that no one wants to actually be in America but are there only because their countries of origin lacks economic opportunity (it's actually explicitly stated for a few characters) and then the irony of characters (like college girl and love interest) trying to get out of Washington Heights because of lack of economic opportunity despite the lingering threat of muh gentrification which is seen as a threat rather than a potential source of economic opportunity. Because of gentrification apparently it costs Cuban abuela too much to dry clean her napkins for a special event. Then she dies, but I don't think it was of dingy napkins.

Oh no...that's terrible...
He didn't put dark enough people in it. Make it his fault for being racist until they cancel this whiny, Hispanic, parasite, troublemaker.
