He'd do it for free, because his position gives him so much prestige that he can extract income by other means.

I was thinking exactly this.

He wants the fame, and he wants the posish. The position gives him a mechanism to drive programs in such a way that his salary is a small footnote, compared to his REAL compensation.

Fauci made Billions on this last "Pandemic". All in Grand Cayman LLCs, Cypriot bank accounts, Bitcoin hard drives... who knows.
