Women have generally been childlike. Spoiled children are always rotten. It's only in the absence of the patriarch; providing guidance to women and children, and protecting them from external threats and themselves, that the bad shit tends to come out. I think women are also more likely to be spoiled as children by a doting father.

Of course, male children become rotten without a patriarch, as well. So it's hard to put it all on women.
