I am going to pretend you aren't being a dick and are just gullible enough to trust China follows anything like rules:
In China, it is never 1 leads to 2 on anything. The national congress says divorce is leading to lower birth rates, we must do something, here is what we say: 30 days cooling off to give them time to rethink. Local politicians see it as: divorce rates go up, we get blamed, people who get blamed go to prison or worse as part of 'corruption probe'. Thus, there are fewer divorces because there are fewer being allowed. This is how China works. China Uncensored is a great source of information on them.
Because marriage is not the benchmark of a happy, successful relationship, especially in a repressive regime that controls all aspects of your life.
In our society, marriage is looked upon as a happy institution and those who succeed at it are more likely to produce strong, happy children who grow up to create less crime and provide for their families and society. More likely, not necessarily going to, though. It is, in fact, the stable relationship with their parents that provides this and better access to resources within those relationships that leads to happier, stronger children.
Being married to a crazy bitch will not lead to a happy life and will definitely not lead to happy, strong children.
Divorce should not be the benchmark upon which they are focusing, but the happiness, success, access to resources, and mental well-being of the people in those relationships if they want to increase their birthrates and the productivity of their society. Happier people lead to less divorces because they choose their mates more carefully and this leads to happier children.
Western society, it is not a lack of resources that leads to the unhappiness of people, it is the fact that we have strangled resources for men while keeping the burden of providing for, building, and maintaining the relationships upon them and provided no real balance/weight in society for women to carry unless they have children. This is especially true for mental health.
But you didn't answer my very simple question...what is wrong with reducing divorce?
I didn't say China was great or governments shouldn't focus on citizens genuine well being.
Nobody is forced to marry a *crazy bitch" anymore, not even in China. Divorce is always bad. It may be less bad than murder, etc. but it's not good. Reducing it is a net positive unless you can demonstrate reducing it increases something worse.
Can you read? It's essentially a 30 day waiting period. They have these for firearm purchases stateside btw.
Yeah, in commie states only.
Indeed.

I've watched China Uncensored for years, back when they called themselves China unscripted (when they were obviously scripted).
How is fewer divorces a bad thing?

Ok...I agree with what you said here.
