I'm 40 now and have been collecting comic books and baseball/football/hockey cards since I was about 9. I'm sure most of you have heard how sports cards have been booming since Covid started and I was wondering if this was a hobby that could be taken over by the woke mafia like comic books. It is a hobby that is enjoyed by a large percentage of guys so that is one target. I am almost waiting for the headline telling me that baseball cards are "problematic".

I mean I suppose they could. I wouldn't really be paranoid about it. There's nothing you can do about it. Just pick and choose the stuff you want out of it. I sort of had to accept and adapt to be able to get my head straight and move on. The key is adapt, not totally give up.
Examples:
-I was in to sports (yeah I know a very unpopular thing around here), I've dropped a lot of that. The good thing is I was always more into the competition instead of the idol worship. I did spend a lot of money on it though before. I've just adapted to different levels. College baseball for example is high quality in some places, accessible, and very cheap. Low wokeness. I may try to do similar with hockey, but that being a much more live sport we will see. If anything I can just go watch high school hockey for free. -Games had already changed for me. About 2015ish they just stared falling off a cliff. The good news is I already have enough games for about the rest of my life anyway. I don't care about FPS and resolution and modern tech anyway. -I barely watch TV anymore, and when I do it's old stuff. Movies on occasion. I've got a big library of stuff already, enough that I can rewatch and almost forget about it in between. Although TV wasn't really a sacrifice as I was never into that to begin with.
I was into sports cards for a short bit. It's cool but not for me. It's gotten expensive and very gambly, and I don't have a gambler's personality. I do have a small collection of some decent stuff, but none of it has shot up in value. It seems the crazy value stuff is very heavily focused on a tiny handful of players with extreme rarity where the big money people just get in a bidding war. While from all the stuff above costing me way less and giving me a lot of freed up money, I've been investing in myself (learning things) and in real estate.
I watch older stuff mostly and have lots of books. I collect more for the fun of it. I would have to be in serious debt to sell my cards or comic books. I’ll pass them on to kids or nephews/nieces. Real estate isn’t a bad investment. I’m mainly investing in stocks and crypto at the moment.
