This has definitely been a grieving process for me and others. The man's work was monumental and losing it has put some things in perspective for me. I really think the news of his death dwarfs all the culture war stuff. This is a genuine loss.
Fans had probably feared this happening since he hit 50, and as this was likely a concern for Japanese fans he probably should have made an effort to end the story as quickly as possible.
Hopefully his estate has manuscripts that can be used to quickly wrap everything up so that the franchise can be put to rest, and that they make sure his legacy doesn't get dragged through the mud like what happened to Tom Clancy and his works.
Edit: to people who think I am being disrespectful, I should note that my concerns are legitimate and that Tom Clancy is an example of what I fear may happen to his works now that he is dead. We all know about the shitty amazon Jack Ryan series, plus the new books that are being published under his name by different authors are examples too.
I think rushing to wrap it up would be an absolute insult. Far better to just leave it unfinished.
Terry Pratchett instructed that after his death all his unfinished work should be run over by a steamroller.
I get what you are saying, but using the manuscripts to finish it would still be nice.
Quite a few people held vigils for TotalBiscuit in Warframe, as he was a influential fan of it.
How did you guys get together to organize that?
