As far as fantasy would handle mental illness, at least this one makes sense. She is not really transgendered, she changed genders and is now normal. Having actual transgenders in the game would be retarded.
I honestly would not care if it was a new character but doing it to an established character is what annoys the crap out of me. It's a forced change to pander.
If it weren't for rl trannies going "SHE'S JUST LIKE ME", I would have no issue with completely magical world characters being like "hey, if I use my magic to look like a girl, I'll be able to slip into places easier, abuse psychological blindspots". Creative utilization of magic systems for problem solving is cool, but not when "shaving, drugging myself up, doing a Darwin to my reproductive parts, and yelling online = magic"
Honestly, between blk grrrl mgic and this shit, magic gets a terrible rap nowadays.
There's another character that is actually directly trans in WoW - a woman who died, went to the afterlife (this expansion is the expansion that happens in the afterlife), and chose a male body instead of a female one (it's weird, characters basically change into new species when they die, WoW is odd).
It makes perfect sense.
Also, Chromie always had a male dragon name and a female gnome form. This is not new or particularly forced. If any character in the game makes sense to "reveal" as trans (and even that is done subtly and respectfully), it would be Chromie.
The initial name I am sure was a mistake no one noticed and then went with it when the theories came out. There was another one in pandaria, it was this female char with male voice in one of the temples, I think horde side but I can't be sure. Again I'm 90% sure it was a mistake but I bet a dev will say it was intentional and is trans or something.

Pandering to the max. Fuck them.
