In-group awards, for example scientists awarding other scientists or filmmakers awarding other filmmakers, are a complete joke.

Remember the 2020 "The Last of Us 2" Game Awards?

In my opinion a good award should have 2 criteria:

1. Should be given between groups, for example consumers to companies, students to professors and vice versa...
2. Should be transparent: no "juries", no "committees", no "weighted voting", just a list of voters that have equal voting power

A good example are the Steam Awards, they don't take themselves too seriously and they are quite transparent, even though the results are often a contest of popularity rather than quality (which is unavoidable with such huge numbers)
