tl;dr description: saul goodman is john wick recommendation: watch it

Mild mannered unassuming guy is actually a badass, gets righteously pissed off, and goes on to do badass stuff. Its a formula for a reason, because it works. This movie spends a bit more time making the pre-reveal personally looking mundane and pathetic which just makes the following action sequences more satisfying.

A generic suburban middle manager has a secret past. His wife, children, and co-workers don't respect him. After a chance encounter he has to use his skills and contacts to protect his family. His father is Christopher Lloyd who I guess escaped those Lybians and is in a retirement home. The action is fun and the plot doesn't get in the way.

spoiler filled details

(categories scored on a 0-5 rating with 0 being absolutely none and 3+ pushing various levels of unacceptable)

diversity(1): The initial rude thug "crew" that started the whole sequences is multi-racial but not panderingly so. There is a black russian, which is of course unrealistic, but he is explained away with a throwaway line and he isn't portrayed as "special". The main character has a black brother who isn't explained and race isn't mentioned at all.

feminism(1): The wife is initially portrayed as the "success" who has so little regard for her husband that she builds a pillow wall between them in bed. But this isn't played straight, just to set up the reveal. Once he goes beast mode she appears to fall in line and obey him without bitching. There are female soldiers shown as normal members of the enemy hit squad but no attention is drawn to them. They die like everyone else. There is a female "hacker" who only has a couple of lines.

faggotry(0): Didn't notice any homos or gender bullshit.

subversion(1): The bad guys are the socially acceptable russian mob but don't remember anything egregious about russians in general. A hispanic couple is "forgiven" for their initial burglary/home invasion because they were desperate with a sick kid.
