COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Police shot and killed a teenage girl Tuesday afternoon in Columbus just as the verdict was being announced in the trial for the killing of George Floyd.
The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation was at the scene Tuesday night on the city’s southeast side, The Columbus Dispatch reported.
Officers had responded to an attempted stabbing call when police shot the girl at about 4:45 p.m., the newspaper reported. The 911 caller reported a female was trying to stab them before hanging up, according to the Dispatch.
The girl was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Nobody else was injured, the newspaper reported.
“This afternoon a young woman tragically lost her life,” Columbus Mayor Andrew Ginther tweeted. “We do not know all of the details. There is body-worn camera footage of the incident. We are working to review it as soon as possible.”

Columbus police officer fatally shoots girl swinging knife
By FARNOUSH AMIRI and RYAN KRYSKA today
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Columbus police shot and killed a teenage girl who swung at two other people with a knife Tuesday, according to bodycam footage from the officer who fired the shots just minutes before the verdict in George Floyd’s killing was read.
Officials with the Columbus Division of Police showed a segment of the footage Tuesday night just hours after the shooting took place in a neighborhood on the city’s east side. The decision to swiftly release the video was a departure from protocol as the force faces immense scrutiny from the public following a series of recent high-profile police killings that have led to clashes.
The 10-second clip begins with the officer getting out of his car at a house where police had been dispatched after someone called 911 saying they were being physically threatened, Interim Police Chief Michael Woods said at the news conference. The officer takes a few steps toward a group of people in the driveway when the girl, who was Black, starts swinging a knife wildly at another girl or woman, who falls backward. The officer shouts several times to get down.

Americans' distrust of the press goes deeper than partisanship and comes down to how journalists define their very mission, according to a new study from the Media Insight Project, a collaboration between the American Press Institute and AP-NORC. @dbauder
The study defined five core principles or beliefs that drive most journalists. And it found that non-journalists offer unqualified majority support for only one of them – the idea that the press should provide people with facts.
I wonder how exactly journalists "define their job a certain way." And their "set of principles". Probably more like the Pulitzer Prize-winning Moscow bureau chief of The New York Times, Walter Duranty, than Gareth Jones:

Study finds people want more than watchdogs for journalists
By DAVID BAUDER yesterday
Less than a third of the respondents agreed completely with the idea that it’s important to aggressively point out problems. Only 11% of the public, most of them liberals, offered full support to all five ideas.
Believe it or not, most journalists are pretty sincere, said Rosenstiel, a former reporter for the Los Angeles Times and Newsweek.
“Regular people should note that when journalists say they are just doing their job, they actually mean that,” he said, “because they define their job a certain way. They’re not lying. They really don’t think of themselves as secret agents of the Democratic Party. They have these set of principles that they think they’re upholding.”

Newsweek Edits 2015 Story on Army Rangers to Conform to New Attack on Tom Cotton

When Newsweek edited its 2015 story, it appended this correction: “This article has been changed to note that completion of the course allows one to wear the Ranger tab, but does not make one a Ranger.” Again, there are many military veterans who disagree with that contention:
She just happened to be juggling with a knife and then the cops shot her! They were all like: Is that negro juggling?!!! I WON'T LET THIS STAND! 10-45 OFFICER NEEDS ASSISTANCE WITH A JUGGLING NEGRO!
