I think he framed himself that way but in the end he wasn't very effective at real change.

Jack Murphy called it right. We needed Trump to blast the left and RINOs, but he really was a poor institution builder. He seemed to enjoy the levers, but have little interest in developing the machine.

And that lack of institution building/rebuilding, bit him and us in the ass hard.
