I'm going to go with the same thing that's gone on with nearly every other government thing in the last year in particular. They are brainwashed idiots. All of their kind feel the need to be ambassadors for whatever "keeps us safe" whether they are a famous internet person or a random guy hiding in his house. It's been engrained into them since they were small children. These ecelebs or whatever are just more noticeable because they draw an audience.
