Peter Thiel did a talk some years back (at a university, I think) where he mentioned tech companies get into a few types of businesses to get around being considered a monopoly. They're not a 'search engine company,' they're a 'tech company', and there are a number of other tech companies so they're not a monopoly. Just ignore they have a monopoly on search, or a monopoly on video.
