Back in the 90s a book titled Jihad vs. McWorld argued that the central world conflict would be what we now call globo-homo vs. localist reactionary movements. I remember that book being extremely popular back when I was in college during the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, but I hadn't really thought of it since until a few months ago.
In retrospect it's laughable for the author to lay the blame solely on "Capitalism" when liberalism will with the same fervor as McDonald's entering a new market send troops halfway around the world to "liberate" people from some sort of "oppression" they never knew they "suffered" from. And act just as shocked and offended when the natives don't want them there and tell them to leave.
When Muslims called the American government 'the great satan' I used to laugh.
Now I agree.
You are mistaken. They did not call the American government the great satan, they called America that.
