You're correct when it comes to the Muslim world in general, but to my own surprise, this is actually not tolerated (and the intolerance enforced by death) by the Salafis and other extremist sects. The Taliban took their own ban on the Afghan tradition of bacha bazi (the 'dancing boys'/underage male sex slaves) and killed anyone practicing it. It was unironically a major reason as to why the Taliban even gained power in the first place - Afghan civilians getting sick of warlord gangs kidnapping their sons for their bosses' fun, and conseuquently enlisting with or otherwise aiding the Taliban against those depraved warlords.

The practice has only been making a comeback in recent decades because, as that infamous Vice documentary (back when they still had any reporters who were worth a damn) recorded, the same warlords the Taliban had nearly crushed returned to power as part of the new Western-backed government and US troops are being ordered to turn a blind eye to their proclivities.
