I stupidly preordered this game after one of the delay announcements because I stupidly believed that CDPR was making good on their promises. Then I stupidly didn't ask for a refund in the 30 day window. I don't have an excuse for that other than sheer laziness. You would think that I would have learned my lesson when I preordered Rome Total War 2 in 2014...
But the train of stupid continued when I bought a 3090 and I don't even own a g-sync compatible monitor.
The main point of all of this is, is it safe to play CyberPunk yet or do I need to keep waiting?
I really think the hate surrounding this game is exaggerated. I will admit that I didn't have any expectations going into it so I couldn't be disappointed, but in my opinion it's a pretty good open world game, just not the game that people were expecting.
One thing that continues to impress me is the quality of the map, despite its impressive size. I can't believe how many buildings you can go into and out of, seamlessly, and how 'lived in' the world feels. In most open world games, I start to notice copy-pasting of assets after awhile, but Cyberpunk manages to keep things varied enough that the illusion isn't broken (for me, anyway). If I had to pick one thing that does bother me it would be the traffic AI, or lack thereof. It makes it hard to cruise around the city when the traffic lights don't really work.
Overall I think it's a game that tripped over its ambition, but at least it's trying to be something with a soul to it, unlike Ubisoft or EA's more polished open worlds.
