This is the most important thing I've ever written. My friend and family Lauren @Wolfe321 was just fired by the @NYTimes after the NYT was pressured by fascists, Trumpkins and hypocrites on the right for tweeting she had "chills" after witnessing Biden's landing on the 20th.

- That's the thing about "cancel culture," it won't only happen to people you don't like.
2) I can not find a single person calling for Lauren Wolfe to be fired from the NYT. People can pretend a conservative mob came for her but I literally can't find it.

Yeah, that's my other question. Did even one person with any kind of prominent platform call for her to be fired over that tweet? Liberal idiots all day have tried to claim I did and I think people know now I didn't. But did anyone?

Seems like they just saw an opportunity--get rid of a writer they didn't want and blame someone they didn't like. Win-win.

NYT statement on the chills tweet: “There’s a lot of inaccurate information circulating on Twitter. For privacy reasons we don’t get into the details of personnel matters but we can say that we didn’t end someone’s employment over a single tweet..We don’t plan to comment further”

FROM THE MAGAZINE
Slouching Toward Post-Journalism
The New York Times and other elite media outlets have openly embraced advocacy over reporting.
Martin Gurri Winter 2021
Post-journalism “mixes open ideological intentions with a hidden business necessity required for the media to survive,” Mir observes. The new business model required a new style of reporting. Its language aimed to commodify polarization and threat: journalists had to “scare the audience to make it donate.” At stake was survival in the digital storm.
The Times published more than 3,000 stories on the Robert Mueller–led investigation of Donald Trump’s alleged collusion with Russia, though the former FBI director found no evidence of a conspiracy.
