It's to establish "legitimacy" by saying thing the little people can agree with.

State lots of obvious things, obviously and little NPCs will feel they're on the same page and can trust them.

Then they call fake news on something that is true and against their agenda aaaand the NPCs have no reason to distrust their bestest friends.
