What can be possibly done? All the other problems can be addressed but I feel like DNS is the final filter. We can't flee "muh private corporations" if we depend solely on other private corporations to not pull the domain from under our feet. Thoughts?

Good idea.
Messy and decentralized can be a strength if you leverage it, look at anonymous for example.
The only thing I don't agree with is the radio: in a lot of countries to use it you need a code that's basically a self dox, also it's extremely easy to eavesdrop.
Maybe I'll look into usenet (but I think it has the same problems) and IRCs...
Usenet newsgroups are still up, and a lot of them are unmoderated.
It's an ocean of spam but it could actually be a good strategy to hide there.
It won't be as anonymous as other stuff that's been posted in this thread, but as a quick and dirty fix it could work well.
if you want to go abandoned places irc is still around some channels are practacly zombies others are just empty as is a few old chat services that for the most part are abandoned like avatar chat program the palace, or most of second life also. If you want to use games and the like various MUD's have their source code online perhaps one could be repurposed as a ghetto forum heck some MUD's are flat out abandoned still up mostly for legacy's sake or just forgotten. of course all of this is not anon but probably could be used in a pinch
