What can be possibly done? All the other problems can be addressed but I feel like DNS is the final filter. We can't flee "muh private corporations" if we depend solely on other private corporations to not pull the domain from under our feet. Thoughts?

In the end if you're on the public internet it's just never possible to address everything. If the big DNS servers decide to just not include you could run your own nameservers but then they don't have to peer with those or you'd have to get all your users to connect to them directly. Even beyond that at some point if all the cloud companies hate you then you I suppose could build your own infrastructure. Money aside, get all this built then at some point other ISPs have to peer with you.
In the end it's all down to hoping there's enough companies willing to just take your money and offer you a service and not care about your politics and do your best to plan for it.
