When it comes to time to make a decision between you and their friends on the force who are getting shot and killed, they will choose their friends on the force 100% of the time. Same goes for soldiers. No matter how friendly their are toward you in peacetime, they are not your friends.
I know that when your buddies in your platoon start getting shot by patriots, you are overwhelmingly likely to be shooting back at the patriots, not joining them.
Why would I do that? You've given no reason to. Also I'm a student of history. The soldiers in Company C didn't question their orders in the Mai Lai massacre. Nobody questioned the torture happening in Abu Ghraib. The National Guard didn't have any problems mowing down people at Kent State. I have no reason to believe you or your buddies would be any different. Soldiers are agents of the state by definition, thus they are enemies of the people.
