I mean, its from the guys who made the Witcher which when it isn't boring, is awful to play. If not for the story/characters that game would have been in the pit with Lords of the Fallen.
I don't know what people were expecting, it feels like the meme of how bad it is has overtaken the reality of its flaws.
That doesn't change that the game is no worse to play than the previous game they made with those "core" devs. Its a bog standard FPS RPG, if you've played one you played them all. The same as Borderlands, the new Deus Ex games, or the Bethesda/Obsidian Fallouts almost to a T.
And as your complaint was about its boringness to play, that's the only metric to judge it on.
