I would personally not depict them at all. Not even as villains.
Villains should be interesting and have redeeming qualities.
If they want to appear in modern media, they should stop acting like its the 1400s century. The fact that it is the 1400s in their calendar, is not an excuse.

Well, I like the way they're depicted here ....
It's fucked up when you go all in on a holy war and end up garnering less sympathy than stormtroopers from Star Wars, and you stick with it anyway.
