Still subscribed to Games Done Quick on YouTube — why at this point I don’t know, and they’re doing a female centric marathon called Fleet Fatales 2020, so of course my subscription feed is saturated with the recordings of the event.
Considering the crowd that has co-opted these events it’s not really shocking, but all the same amusing that a female centric speed run event has so many obvious male-to-female trannies running games; at least half of the submissions best I can tell.
And the run isn't "I abuse this glitch and that one and skip 98% of the game."
That's neat the first time, but the only reason to watch a speedrun is to see the game perfected, not dissected.
Not minding those ones either, you just watch them slowed to frame-by-frame.
They exist, but they are far less popular and, in turn, less practiced to perfection. Many games glitchless runs are so gimmicky they are barely above regular play, like DK 64. Most times if I watch I'm looking for neat moves I can use myself, like Shinesparking in Metroid which I never could figure out solo, rather than "stand on this pixel, use two moves in rapid succession, fall through the world and swim until you can jump out behind the boss."
Its just my preference for watching them, I'm not involved in that community further and not enough to make serious hard demands of them. The dissection's are interesting, but most end up the same flavor of breaking the game to skip things.
