Years ago, my dad wrote an article for the local paper that basically recapped an episode of Star Trek where an alien creature was killing human miners for breaking its eggs. He pointed out how the inhuman creature was portrayed sympathetically, yet people look the other way for actual abortions.
Funny how people can feel more sympathy for literal aliens than real children.
Not just any alien either, but that was a Horta, a silicon-based life form that looks like a rock with gingivitis. Or, more accurately, a man crawling around under a dirty rug that looks like a rock with gingivitis.
