And why exactly did he sell the site to people he knows would go against the spirit of everything the original site stands for. ?

Money, fatigue, fear... there are plenty of reasons. I hope he got paid well because it is worthless now.

He probably burned out as he was heading into the direction of /pol/, I hope to god he kept an archive of everything so that it could be reposted someday and kept any email communications with himself private.
