I don't know about this person specifically, but I kind of enjoy the critical analysis deal of my favorite stuff. In fact, I usually hear that sort of thing whenever people hate on the "EFAP" guys for being too hard on modern movies/games.
Of course, there's a difference between looking at components of something and understanding why it's good or bad, liked or disliked, etc. Versus someone just pushing the themes of a story as if it's an inherently good lesson to learn, like the SJW/Leftist stuff.

'Critical analysis' is a dogwhistle for progressivism, but they sold the term to the masses by pretending it simply meant reassesing assumptions.
