I have several kick ass stories about government stealing my land several times, and now I just refuse to own anything.
Once in Texas when a nearby municipality forcibly annexed my property, and in Washington state my 10 acre spread was rezoned without my permission or any notification that a rezoning was being done. I had no means to stop it either time. I sold them both.
Now I own nothing - no house, no car, no land; no nothing that government can seize. Which has turned out to be a very good idea because now I can escape Seattle by giving the landlord 30 days notice and going on my way out of this state with the least amount of financial damage inflicted by government.
You don't own anything in this country, you just get to make the payments on it.
I also have a very cautionary tale of how my mother needed nursing home care in her last years which could only be paid for by state Medicaid. The state forced her husband to sign over the title to their little country house, one of his cars, and any savings or valuables that were in their possession. The state cleaned him out of any little thing they had earned in their lives in lieu of state payment for her Medicaid costs. It's fucking criminal and they were in their 80's.
Obamacare was a clusterfuck fiasco all of its own, that made a horrible problem into a quagmire of state laws and federal requirements that Einstein couldn't unravel.
My point is that government in the US at every level has awarded itself the right to seize your stuff. Civil asset forfeiture, tax liens, required registrations and taxations and insurances. Failing to comply with any part of their puzzle gets your property confiscated in lieu of compliance. They will take your shit and you can fuck right off.
Which is greatly tied into the global financial system of perpetual debt and the interest perpetually paid into the corporate/government/financial system so that no capitol assets can ever be accumulated by the average plebe. It's indentured servitude.
