I haven't hit much in the way of big-box games in quite a while, other than re-launches(Halo) or the solid gold ones(Stellaris and Total War Warhammer 2). I've been poking a bunch of smaller games recently. Factorio, Gunfire Reborn, and Scrap Mechanic to name a few.
Factorio is absolutely the best big-brain game I own; there's no upper limit to the logistics you can create there. Best summed up as a logistics simulator meets Starship Troopers. Has a perfectly fitting soundtrack as well, sells the atmosphere beautifully. Helps the devs are gearing up for the 1.0 launch with a graphical and UI overhaul.
Gunfire Reborn is a REAL nice change from the gritty super-powered shooters suffusing the market. Korean developed, I think, with a gorgeous and colorful style that extends all the way down to mechanics. Guns are unique and varied, and the roguelite elements are tuned rather well for another early access game.
Scrap Mechanic is another deviation from the general green, grey, and brown survival game. Stylistically cartoon-y, one foot scale "block" based physics builder game, with a recently released survival mode. It's light on survival mechanics, real big on physics mechanics. And has the upside it doesn't suffer (much) from Kraken type physics problems.
