Far be it from me to point anyone back over to Reddit for anything, but the /r/roms sub has a pretty good breakdown of where one might locate files and images for any given system. While you're at it, you might want to check out /r/datahoarder for recommendations on a NAS or good storage unit, to keep those files safe.
