Maybe some little town in the Aleutian Islands in Alaska only accessible by boat where only 100 people live and they all work at the same cannery canning salmon?
At least I hope so; that's kinda my current escape plan. Or a couple hundred acres in Alaska bush country only accessible by aircraft.
I spent a couple weeks there last year and got that sense. Excluding places like Anchorage and Juneau of course; Anchorage surprised me at how normal it was.
The guy bagging groceries at the safeway had a hook hand. I assumed some old fisherman who lost a hand. I understand your difficulty in pinpointing exactly how it's different, but it definitely was.

Everyone in Alaska is.... different. I mean there's Ohio different but Alaska different is special.

May I compliment you on your name? My eyesight isn't what it used to be but I think I qualify for at least four of those letters. Perhaps five.
