That's not true. That wording is pretty broad and leaves it up to the Secretary of Commerce to determine "any subsidiary of that entity". They may not ban something such as Riot, but it doesn't mean they can't. This is one giant guillotine over any company associated with Tencent.
So technically the US could ban Reddit...
It would ban financial transactions with Reddit which means all their ad revenue would shrivel up and die overnight.
Seems that Reddit is living on borrowed time then.
If the axe is dropped it would effect their domain registar access and hosting as well as I would doubt any company would be kind enough to hand it over as charity.
The sword of Damocles, and the hair holding it up is exceptionally fine. I'd expect court challenges though, and given courts seem to be full on TDS I'm not going to be holding my breath
