Garlic, wild garlic, snake garlic, garlic mustard, dried mushrooms, juniper berries, horseradish, young hops, thymus, thyme, wild mustard, mint, dill, Saint Barbara's herb, rumex. hogweed (we slavs love our food to be both salty and sour), urtica, wild parsley, angelica, pimpinella, cuckoopint, pennycress... All those and many, many more were used in Slavic cuisine at that time. Yes, we didn't have all those 'fancy' spices, but thanks to that our food to this day has a 'different' taste than what you can find in restaurants in western countries (and I fkn love it).
Just because none of those are found in hot sauce doesn't mean those aren't spices -_-
