He literally made the place, and never asked for more mods. Its pretty simple.
And he wasn't that unliked at the beginning. People had a pretty positive opinion of him back on reddit KIA2, especially compared to Antonio the more bullheaded and aggressive of the two. Even for the first few years here, opinion of him wasn't that negative even if there were disagreements. Not positive but not constant complain topics either.
Its only within the last year when the JQ became a much more spammed topic and he himself got very emotionally invested in it that things turned around on him. Made worse by the pedo pajeet making everyone aware of how little he actually shows up.
It should be noted, back when thedonald.win was considering adding new non-donald boards (still think subwins was a better name), it was actually the policy that only actual mods from subreddits that wanted to come here could make those boards here. Several people who had made the jump from the_donald to thedonald.win in the year before communities, win even existed had asked /doggos and others if we could make a KiA (among other boards that reddit was banning) here, and were told that there were already plans to do that, but only their mods on reddit could make the board here. There's a reason why only a handful of non thedonald .wins have their own domain name while the rest just get communities.win/c/whatever or scored now I guess. The rollout was very slow and they only added a handful at first, halfKiA being one of the first. It's been a while, but I believe KiA2 was part of the second batch after many of us rightfully complained that halfKiA was lame. The donald admins didn't really know or understand the whole split thing, so it had to be explained to them why there were two on reddit and why there should not just be KotakuinAction here. Sometime after that first handful, then they rolled out admin created communities.win sub, like /funny, /animals, etc. And then finally they allowed user created ones.
So it's less luck that AoV and Dom were able to make this one, but also because they were part of the small group that was only allowed to.
It might be my memory going south but I could swear KIA2 actually came first, as there was legitimate push towards getting off reddit as our more rowdy and offensive userbase was in more danger of getting banned, while KIA1 did the jump very reluctantly and abandoned theirs very quickly as well to stay on reddit.
Otherwise, good to know the rest. I didn't know most of that history as I left T_D when it started to get too hugboxy against any dissent.
