Imagine constantly sympathizing with evil villains, and then criticizing anyone else about morality.
This does seem to be one of the new theme in literature. The bad guys are just misunderstood would be heroes. Don't have to take responsibility for ones actions if all those actions are due to uncontrollable circumstances. taps forehead Take your cake and eat it too.
I think Wicked was one of the early purveyors of this trope (in thr modern era... I cant speak to older lit), which was also heavily monetized by Disney in several projects, notably Once Upon a Time.
They also seem to be focusing on "rescuing" female villains. Reminds me of cheating gfs who get caught and then lay down the gaslighting. No wymyn is truly evil, you misogynist!
I learned moid was a word recently lol, but yes. There are some rescuing male villains too, but only if they're hot. See: Lucifer.
What have we learned kids?: as long as you're physically attractive, society is to blame for all your life choices. Lol... I've never seen an ugly villain rehabbed.
