They hate the nation that isn't ruled by them. Then when they rule, they demand nationalistic sentiment to their new nation. See the CCP and Soviets as an example.

Nationalism is not tied to communism or fascism. It is an independent cultural element. A society can be nationalist regardless of left or right wing political framework.
