This is one of the reasons I watch Kdramas instead of western stuff. It’s more wholesome and appropriate for the whole family to watch if they wanted. But it’s mostly because I’m tired of woke crap and “independent woman don’t need to man” inserts. What’s the fucking point if making a romance if the woman doesn’t need a man? It’s ridiculous. They have more traditional gender roles in Kdrama’s still, for the most part.
Unfortunately, that is probably going to come to an end as well because it’s become more popular and Netflix is becoming involved in some. I’ll enjoy it while it lasts.
I’ve also seen a trend in western romance books that have the genders studies chick as the leading lady, you know independent woman. And sure as shit, the man she is intended to be with is always masculine leaning on the conservative side. I don’t ever read about it being a hipster who is lactose intolerant and has 2 cats and is a feminist ally. Nope. Funny that?
