The fucking race swapping. I'm talking about the new Olivia Colman movie Wicked Little Letters - which I quite enjoyed - it's based on a true story set in England in 1920's. And of course they fucking made the female Cop Black, the Boyfriend Black and the Judge Black, In reality they were all white and the boyfriend was in fact a husband - so they took a White Husband from the 2nd main character and gave her a black boyfriend instead. The female cop who actually did solve it in real life is of course no longer white and the Judge in the case who was also white in reality is now Black. In real life the UK didn't get a black judge until 1978 (Tunji Sowande).

Is there a book or original movie I can watch? I’m curious as to the rationale for the race swapping in something based on a true story. I guess they would say the usual stuff. I guess I need to continue work on my Shaka Zulu story played by a Scandinavian woman
I can sum up the rationale for the swapping in 3 letters - ESG. There is no good reason - just that. And no, there's no other movie or book source. I won't spoil the ending in case you do manage to see it, but if you do any research you'll quickly find out who is the perpetrator which may ruin enjoyment of the movie as it is a 'mystery'. (I solved it about 10 minutes in though)
I love murder mysteries. I’ve been in comment sections where people say “what’s the big deal, or you are just mad about seeing black people” but for a period piece (one based on true events as well) it does take you out of it when they feel the need to “modern day” it. I love the dynasty warriors games based on the Romance of the 3 Kingdoms. If they did a movie about that it would look weird to have white people in ancient China.
It reeks of tokenism. I wouldn't want to watch a movie about Shaka Zulu and have him played by Jason Alexander. And if people think i'm anti-black or racist , I point out that my favourite movie ever is Fresh - which has a 90% black cast.
Wow. That takes me back. I haven’t seen Fresh since I was in 8th grade. I’m messing around with the idea of writing a story that is a comedy where a down on his luck director has a Scandinavian woman play Shaka Zulu in a movie. Essentially mocking the trend of Hollywood in the last decade. Two dumbest things were Anne Boyelyn show and that Viking show. Unfortunately writing comedy is hard for me
Would she be in black face though? ;)
Of course not. I would have the director use the same defense they used for that stupid Anne Boyelyn show. “We want to see Shaka Zulu from a different perspective”
Well I hope you follow through and complete the script :)
