I think that's more that he seemed autistic. Not official, but he definitely seems it. And autism seems to lead to gay or trans. A significant part of 'trans' is 'easily manipulated social outcast with autism, buying into a delusion...'. Same goes with gay though. A lot of them are gay.

And the autism would be the source of his crypto powers. Not the gayness. I'm not even to give them any credit for that one.
