That's the post, really. Basically everyone is saying it's really good and has no microtransactions, etc. Is it worth a buy, or would I be supporting a woke project?

Yes your childhood franchises are dead. But honestly, I think there's a good lesson in that.
I've come to realize that some things run their course and are better left off in the past. Baldurs Gate is gone, so move on.
Star Wars is gone, so is Star Trek, and anything else you can think of. But that's not necessarily bad, it's the way things have always been before our current "remake and reboot" era. Movies and TV would end and stay dead.
We just have to understand that these remakes are zombies, the stuff we liked is dead.
We just have to accept it to avoid falling into traps like "hmmm maybe this new BG ain't so bad..." It's not a Baldurs Gate game.
Exactly. One of the better things that could happen would be to reform copyright. Duration is the obvious one. Give copyright for 20-30 years, and then open it up. No more corporations owning literally every single character created in the past century.
I think it'd also be nice if copyright were less transferable in some way. A big part of the problem is caused by megacorps (Disney) buying up rights long after the original creators stopped using their creation (or living). Copyright exists to protect creators and make it viable to create new things without immediately getting ripped off, not to enable the biggest megacorps the right to buy out all the popular IP and then give them legalized monopolies. If rights are sold this way it should immediately forfeit various protections on IP.
