I once saw a Facebook comment where a guy said “I hate white people” and then went into a three-paragraph explanation of “Obviously, I don’t mean ALL white peoples, just the ones that…” But I figure if your clarification is more than two times longer than the initial statement, you might as well come up with a better and more (allegedly) “accurate” initial statement that conveys what you say your real point is. Otherwise you’re playing the motte and bailey game which apart from being fallacious is also incredibly cowardly.
