One of my many nerd groups I’m is is one for pre-Disney Star Wars fans which is mainly an EU group and we were talking about how all these shill sites have so many good things to say about the EU now when I can remember them talking about how bad it was when Disney took over. Honestly that was my first awareness of the shill media because nerd sites who were pretty positive about the EU all of a sudden started crapping on it once Disney got rid of it.
Some of the guys see this as a positive sign but I guess I’m cynical because I think they just realize that the sequels and a lot of Disney Star Wars isn’t as popular as they want us to believe. Plus I hear the OT toys still sell pretty well.
So what do y’all think? Is this a positive sign or am I right to be cynical?
I would say it is more cynical than that, there are plenty of people huffing their own fumes creatively but I genuinely think especially with a company like Disney that many people internally are aware they aren't producing quality content because they want and expect an audience that will simply consume what they are told to consume. The entire approach to the EU after acquisition I believe was because they knew from the get go that of they attempted to engage with it or altered anything or tried to adapt any of it that there would be backlash or criticisms about what they did, so they not only wiped the slate they then astroturfed a wave of criticism against the EU in the first place. It is not remotely a perfect thing at all but it was always odd how suddenly a bunch of online sentiment and midwit YouTubers were suddenly saying "the EU was always bad" at the same time. I think sometimes the ideology approach doesn't account for the fact that a bunch of these folks merely ape the ideology because it's relevant now days and the more significant factor is that a bunch of scummy fucks want you to pay them multiple times a year to eat their shit and do that for the rest of your entire life and make sure every kid born is quickly on the drip feed of garbage for their entire life too. They don't remotely care about making a good or even acceptable product, they want to make any garbage they want and make billions off it and if you remotely address the scam or the shit content they produce they just astroturf more bullshit about entitlement or whatever the current label fits to make you out to be a bad faith actor
