After doing some digging, I discovered that IMDB had done this over a week ago. I also found out this isn't the first time they've altered the rating system for a movie. Last year, they adjusted ratings for a film titled "The Kashmir Files". I'm sure there are other examples.
The only reason they're admitting it in public now is because they know they'll mostly get away with it. All platforms rig their shit, it's just a question of by how much. I've noticed as well since we're talking about categorisation of products etc. that depending on the place some products are getting away with shamelessly abusing tags and genres clearly to pop up in the search results more.
