Personally, if you’re willing to compromise somewhat and accept guns and a modern setting alongside classic monsters and magic, I recommend Larry Correia’s Monster Hunter International series. If you specifically want swords and magic and maybe a bit of political intrigue, I suggest his Saga of the Forgotten Warrior series.
