I really wish I was fluent in Japanese, not only cause it would make reading and watching easier (have to wait for the translation of the Overlord series) but also for times like this as I can only go by second hand accounts.
But from what I gathered, Asia in general, not just Japan, have deep links to traditional values. In Japan this is higher due to the amount of elderly in the country being one of the biggest and most active voting bases.
Them being against trans stuff is natural because it'd be like seeing a wasted out crackwhore and rather than doing what the west did which was invite them in you home than what Asia and Middle East would do which is keep them the fuck away from anything you value.
I understand it is a large undertaking, but I am morally obligated to shill anytime someone expresses interest. If you watch a lot of anime or listen to a lot of Japanese music or do something else where you are exposed to Japanese, just putting a little bit of regular effort goes a long way. You would probably be surprised how fast you progress, and seeing that first bit of progress is addicting and makes you want more. We really need more based people to learn Japanese. Its lonely over here on the other side.
I'm 80% of the way through Genki II, and I find myself not reading subtitles for simpler shows every so often. It's wild the feeling of finally understanding just how much liberty localizers take 24/7

Thats awesome to hear man. Savor that feeling, it will keep pushing you forward! The more people that learn, the less power those psychopaths have.
