This means that even if there is a connection between socio-economic background and involvement in crime, that connection is weak. I went to a school that was almost exclusively white (it has since been radically diversified) and there were the same number of violent assholes in the top classes as there were in the bottom ones.
They made better decisions about where and when to jump you, and had a better idea of how much they could get away with without the school escalating the incident to the police, but they were absolutely just as inclined to violence as their dumber counterparts.
They were about 1 in 15 students.
