I am an honorably discharged vet. I don't display the flag because I don't want anyone to think I am a Republican.

I'm like that when I see US flags on display in general now.
I’ve always flown the flag on the 4th of July. My kid told me, a few years ago, that people were going to assume I’m a Republican. Pretty sad, but he was correct.
Same in Canada with the FreeDUM assholes co-opting our flag. Whiny losers who think they are patriotic is unfortunately not a US monopoly -> Candian living in the USA here. During the trucker bullshit a guy down the road took down his Trump flag to put up a Canadian one. I was livid.
THIS! The fetishization of the flag is a huge danger sign. -> Starts with the pledge.
Every time I hear the word patriot these days I cringe.
My wife insists that our display of the American flag is “taking it back” from the assholes. I disagree and want my Satanic Temple flag flying from our porch instead.
When I was a kid it was cool to wear a tee shirt with the flag on it. I'd never do it today for this very reason. I don't want people to think I attended the Jan 6th coup attempt.
